My brief for this project was to design an aesthetically pleasing interior that would reflect simplicity, functionality, yet create harmony between the cultural differences of the owners. The main philosophies that we decided to use were based upon: simple shapes, universal designs, muted tones and smart-technology. The house is extremely energy efficient because of its Photovoltaic technology, which is a method of converting solar energy into direct current electricity, using semiconducting materials to produce electricity for heating and hot water. We applied the latest solution in heating technology, which delivers instant heat and can be accessed away from home, via mobile phone. Rooms utilise downlights, pendants, wall lights and LED. Throughout the house we used three specific types of material: matte-dark wood, semi matte- dark grey porcelain tiles, and high glossy white solid. The ground floor welcomes everybody and gives an indoor/outdoor flow via sliding doors to the courtyard. The first level is totally private just for the family. This project is in progress and completion will be towards end of 2015.
