The Slovak National Gallery held a competition for a complete reconstruction of its interior space in the gallery of Ludovit Fulla. The criteria was to create a case study including: floor, furniture design and lighting solutions for the ground floor, public space and main upper level gallery. The budget for this was 100.000 € or less. Our idea for the ground floor was to design a space that was truly multifunctional. We created a library, a meeting and workshop space. Near to the entrance is a refreshment area, which is cleverly hidden behind a shelving system, where the public can make themselves a cup of coffee or tea. There are two types of seating, stackable chairs which can be used to vary the arrangement of the space, and a unique boxed-design which we created especially for this competition. The beauty of its design is that it can be used as a table, a chair and for storage. On both levels, the downlights are on a tracking system and can be set for any specific task required. Throughout the whole building we used high-end extra large tiles /90×90/ that are durable, sustainable and anti-slip. On the upper level is the main gallery. We designed a storage area at one end, to house stackable chairs, boxes and presentation cabinets when they are not in use. It is hidden behind a presentation panel, complete with LED screen to transmit subtitles in any language. I collaborated with Mgr.art.Miroslava Lichá on this project.
